St. Peter's church has a particular attraction for the visitor, perhaps, in part, due to its position. Standing back and half hidden behind the shops of St Peter's Street, first the garden and then the tower come as surprise to the passer-by. They give a sense of space and depth to the street.
The interior of the church also has its charm. For one thing, it is lighter and more spacious than one might have expected. For another, its curious shape and structure which probably owe more to history than design, appeal to the imagination.
St Peter's has another feature: a peace which is in marked contrast to the busy-ness of the street. The peace of St Peter's owes much to the fact that it has been a place of prayer and worship for some 900 years.
